Marshfield boys basketball holds off Rhinelander

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield outscored Rhinelander by nine points in the second quarter and held off the Hodags at the end, winning 40-35 in a nonconference boys basketball game Saturday afternoon at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers used a 13-4 run in the second to take a 22-14 at halftime. Rhinelander outscored Marshfield 21-18 in the second half but couldn’t make it all the way.

Marshfield is now 14-6 and finishes its season this week with games at Merrill on Thursday and at Eau Claire North next Saturday. Thursday’s game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.

Luke Zuiker scored 19 points to account for nearly half of the Tigers’ scoring.

Marshfield was able to survive despite making just 9 of 18 free throws and shooting only 36 percent (13 of 36) from the field.

Rhinelander falls to 15-5.
