MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team dominated Spencer throughout, whipping the Rockets 66-34 on Monday night to capture a share of the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship.
The Dons jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter and pushed the lead to double-digits, going ahead 35-22 at halftime on their home court at Columbus Catholic High School.
Columbus put the game out of reach with a 19-5 third quarter to go up by 27 points.
Jared Fleischmann continued his hot play as of late, pouring in 23 points for Columbus Catholic. Jacob Puent added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Derrick Green chipped in 11 for the Dons.
Columbus Catholic ends up 15-3 in the Cloverbelt East, tying Owen-Withee for the conference title. It is the Dons’ third conference championship since 2010. Owen-Withee defeated Neillsville 57-55 on Monday to grab its share of the title.
Spencer finishes in fourth place in the conference with a 12-6 mark (13-7 overall).
Columbus Catholic (17-4 overall) will play in a Cloverbelt Conference East-West crossover game on Saturday at Altoona against Osseo-Fairchild at 7:30 p.m. Spencer will play in a crossover game at home on Thursday against Eau Claire Regis.
Mitchell Susa was the only Spencer player to score in double figures, finishing with 14 points.
