AUBURNDALE – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption shot 53 percent and dominated Auburndale, knocking off the Apaches 56-22 to clinch the Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball championship for the second-straight season and fifth time in all.
Mary Sigler scored 17 points and had six steals, and Britney Birkhauser added 11 points and five steals for Assumption, which improves to 19-2 overall and finishes the Marawood South season with a 13-1 record.
Auburndale is now 12-8 and 9-4 in the Marawood South with a game at Marathon remaining in the conference season.
Shannon Yahnke led the Apaches with eight points.
Overall, Auburndale was just 8 of 29 from the field as the Royals had 17 steals.
Assumption led 17-6 after the first quarter and were up 35-11 by halftime.
