Stratford softball scores late to top Spencer

SPENCER – Stratford scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Spencer 5-4 in a nonconference softball game Thursday.

Keri Doll was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Haley Austin was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Tigers (1-0).

Hilary Belter struck out six and walked none, allowing six hits in the win for the Tigers.

Nicki Bruss took the loss for the Rockets (0-1), giving up nine hits and four earned runs in a complete-game effort. She struck out three and walked three.

Dominique Stange was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs for Spencer.

Spencer opens its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule Friday with a home game against Greenwood.

Stratford returns to action Saturday at the New Lisbon Tournament.
