APPLETON – Auburndale’s run at a second-straight trip to the state tournament came to an end Saturday as the Apaches fell 47-42 to Brillion in a WIAA Division 4 boys basketball sectional final at Appleton East High School.
Auburndale, which was the runner-up at the state tournament last year, ends its season with a 24-2 record.
Brillion (18-8) will play defending D-4 champion Whitefish Bay Dominican (23-3) in a semifinal at the 2014 WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Unity (22-2) will play Blair-Taylor (22-3) in the other Division 4 semifinal.
Auburndale led by one early in the fourth quarter after a basket by Josh VanShoick and the lead changed hands two more times before Brillion pulled ahead late.
Matt Nikolay had 11 points and Blake Anderson added 10 for the Apaches.
