ABBOTSFORD – Eleven different players scored runs and 10 players had at least one hit as the Auburndale softball team earned a wild 28-11 victory over Abbotsford in a nonconference game Friday.

Kim Masephol was 5-for-6 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Apaches’ offensive attack that pounded out 23 hits and took advantage of 13 walks and 11 errors by Abbotsford.

Freshman Bailee Krajnik allowed two runs – one earned – in 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win for Auburndale (2-1).

Fellow freshman Kayla Gotz started the game for Auburndale, giving up nine runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Abbotsford held a 6-1 lead after the first inning and 10-7 after two innings before Auburndale tied the game with three runs in the third and forged ahead with a six-run fourth inning. The Apaches put the game away with a 10-run sixth and Krajnik threw a shutout frame in the bottom half to end the game due to the 10-run rule.

“I worked two of my freshmen pitchers to give them experience,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “Nerves may have got to us at first, but our offense definitely paved the way.”

Kelli Isaacson added four hits and four RBIs, and Gotz and Stacy Brokish each had three hits for Auburndale. Brokish scored four times, as did Nicole Nikolay, who was 1-for-1 with five walks.

Auburndale returns to Marawood Conference South Division action next Friday at Northland Lutheran.
