WHITEWATER – Martha Kupfer set a new school record and placed seventh in two events for Marshfield on Saturday at the Wisconsin State Indoor Track Meet at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The event was sponsored by the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association.
Kupfer set a new Marshfield girls indoor record in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:01.54 to take seventh. Kupfer was also seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 2½ inches.
Rebecca Voss competed in the 1,600 and placed 28th in 5:31.8.
“We are so pleased to see Martha break our indoor 400-meter record that has stood for a long time,” Marshfield girls track coach Dan Akin said. “She ran smooth the whole way and did it in the sixth heat out of 13, which is rather remarkable.”
Marshfield finished in 41st place with the four points Kupfer accumulated and her and Voss were the only Tigers athletes to compete at the meet.
Stratford also competed, but didn’t score any points.
Abby Bender tied for ninth in the high jump (5-0); Brooke Schultze finished 34th in the 400 with a time of 1:05.61; Nadia King was 48th (5:48.24) and Jonelle Miner took 50th (5:49.09) in the 1,600; and Holly Huther took 50th in the shot put (29-5) for the Tigers.
Stratford’s 800 relay team of Schultze, Abby Bender, Tori Dietel and Emily Hauke was 24th in 1:56.27.
On the boys side, Marshfield finished tied for seventh with 20 points after Keiron Howlett and Matt Oestreich combined for five top-eight finishes.
