Marathon pulls away to beat Auburndale baseball

AUBURNDALE – Marathon scored six runs from the fourth through the sixth innings to break open a tight game and defeat Auburndale 8-1 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Monday at Auburndale High School.

Marathon led 2-1 before scoring three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away.

Sam Frodl took the loss for Auburndale, giving up six runs – just two earned – in five innings.

Logan Willfahrt was 3-for-4 with a double and Wyatt Weiler was 2-for-3 and had Auburndale’s lone RBI.

Marathon is now 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Marawood South. Auburndale drops to 1-5 and 1-4 in the conference.

The Apaches play at Pittsville on Tuesday.
