STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point scored three goals in the first 21 minutes of the second half to pull past Marshfield 7-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Monday at Portage County Soccer Complex.

The score was tied 2-2 at halftime after Darian Molter scored a pair of goals, on assists from Walker Guzowski and Emily Goeppinger, for Marshfield.

However, the Panthers exploded early in the second half with Jen Hoerter and Casey John scoring 25 second apart in the 48th minute, and Hoerter adding her third goal of the game at the 60:57 mark to make it 5-2.

After Molter scored her third goal for the Tigers, Abby Bohanksi and Jamie Clemons added goals for Stevens Point in the final 10 minutes to put the game away.

Stevens Point is now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Marshfield drops to 4-2-1 and 2-2 in the WVC.

“We just did not have an answer to Bohanski and Hoerter as the duo had a hand in every goal,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We tried marking them tightly, but our defenders were a hair slow and with such talented players, they will make you pay.

“Molter had a great game and she has just been phenomenal this year, but we need others to step up. She has carried the team, but moving ahead we need others to step up and contribute scoring.”

Marshfield is at Wausau West on Tuesday.
