PITTSVILLE – The Auburndale softball team won its first game of the season after splitting a doubleheader with Pittsville on Tuesday in Marawood Conference South Division action.
Pittsville won Game 1 9-0 before Auburndale ended its 10-game losing streak and won the second game of the twinbill 9-4.
Auburndale is now 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the Marawood South. Pittsville is 2-4 and 2-3 in the conference.
Pittsville scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and exploded for eight runs in the fourth to earn the win in the opener.
Auburndale was held to three hits – singles by Brooke Anderson and Sabrina Mitchell, and a double by Kelly Brokish.
Camille Swart won Game 2 for the Apaches, allowing three hits and five walks in a five-inning complete game.
Katie Lundren and Mitchell each had two this and two RBIs, Kaeden Dvorak and Sydney Schmutzer added two hits apiece, and Jenna Ertl drove in a pair for Auburndale.
Pittsville statistics were not provided.
Auburndale hosts Stratford on Friday.
