WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls soccer team rebounded from a shutout loss to defeat Wausau East 5-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Thursday.

Darian Molter scored twice and Molly Field, Lauren Seehafer and Walker Guzowski added goals for the Tigers, who improve to 5-3-1 overall and even their record at 3-3 in the WVC. East falls to 1-7 and 1-5 in the Valley.

Field scored off an assist from Emily Goeppinger in the 19th minute and after East tied the score, Molter put Marshfield up to stay with a goal off an assist from Julia Urban.

Seehafer, Molter and Guzowski added second-half goals for Marshfield to pad the lead.

“We stepped up with more intensity to the ball and challenged loose balls better than we have all season,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Michelle Aspeslet had a great game and played sweeper like a top-notch player tonight.

“Goeppinger, at midfield, again was very workmanlike and although at times she is taken for granted on the field she has been solid. Her and Walker just controlled things at the midfield that really was key to victory.”

Marshfield is off until Tuesday when it plays at Merrill.
