LOYAL – Tynae Phillips smacked a two-run home run to start a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Spencer softball team to an 11-7 win over Loyal/Granton in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday at Loyal High School.
Spencer led 7-4 after a six-run fourth inning before Loyal/Granton picked away at the lead and tied it in the sixth.
Phillips’ home run regained the lead for the Rockets, who added two more runs and held on for the win.
“We were pretty shaky at times, but came out with the win,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “I was proud of the way Amanda Skrzeczkoski came up big in the bottom of our order.”
Brooke Kettleborough had an inside-the-park home run, Phillips finished 3-for-3 and Skreczkoski was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs for Spencer, which improves to 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the Cloverbelt East.
Loyal/Granton is now 2-5 overall and in the conference.
Spencer will play at the Gilman Tournament on Saturday and will take on Neillsville on Tuesday. Neillsville is also unbeaten in the Cloverbelt East.
