GILMAN – The Spencer softball improved to 12-2 with a pair of wins at the GT Slamfest at Gilman High School on Saturday.
The Rockets defeated Glenwood City 7-0 and Thorp 11-9.
Marisa Johnson had two hits and three runs score and Brooke Kettleborough had three RBIs in the win over Glenwood City.
Tynae Phillips tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking just one.
Spencer used a seven-run fourth inning to pull ahead and it held off a rally in the fifth by Thorp to hand the Cardinals just their second defeat of the season.
Johnson and Courtney Buss each scored three times for the Rockets.
Spencer plays at a doubleheader at Neillsville on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The game matches up two undefeated teams in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division. Neillsville is 9-0 and Spencer is 7-0.
