COLBY – The Spencer softball team responded well after suffering its first two losses of the season in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with a doubleheader sweep of Colby on Thursday at Colby High School.
The Rockets, who were swept in a twinbill Tuesday at Neillsville, won 10-0 and 15-0 to move to 14-4 overall and 12-2 in the Cloverbelt East. Colby is now 1-8 overall and in the conference.
Spencer scored at least two runs in four of the five innings of Game 1 to cruise to the shutout. Tynae Phillips allowed one hit in four innings and Marisa Johnson tossed a scoreless fifth inning for Spencer.
Mandie Schultz had two hits and three RBIs, Lindsey Vaughan had two hits, Brooke Kettleborough each had two hits, Macie Weber had a home run and three RBIs, and Johnson scored three times for the Rockets.
Johnson and Weber combined on the one-hit shutout in Game 2.
Schultz and Courtney Buss each had two hits and Schultz drove in three runs for the Rockets.
Spencer is at Gilman on Friday.
