MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team got back to the .500 mark on the season with an 8-7 win over Loyal in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Thursday at Jack Hackman Stadium.
The Dons won for the fourth time in their last five games and improve to 5-5 overall and in the Cloverbelt East. Loyal is now 3-7 overall and in the conference.
Columbus scored three runs in the third and five in the fifth to pull ahead 8-3, then held off a late rally by Loyal.
The Greyhounds scored four runs in the top of the seventh before Jeremy Binder finished off the complete-game victory for Columbus.
Binder struck out 4, did not walk a batter and allowed 11 hits and two earned runs.
Kienan McIntee was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, and Tyler Fuerlinger was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Dons. Matthias Gouin also had two hits for Columbus.
The Dons play at Colby on Friday.
