WAUPACA – The Marshfield girls soccer team had a pair of shutouts and won another game in a shootout to win the Waupaca Invitational on Saturday.
Marshfield defeated Northland Pines 1-0, tied DeForest 1-1 before winning a shootout 3-2, and then whipped Waupaca 3-0 to claim the tournament championship.
Julia Urban scored the game’s only goal in the win over Northland Pines. Goalie Andrea Carolfi had four saves for the Tigers.
Darian Molter scored on an assist from Walker Guzowski in the game against DeForest, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Emily Goeppinger and Guzowski had goals in the shootout, which was tied 2-2, before DeForest missed and Urban won it for the Tigers. Carolfi had two saves in goal.
In the championship game, Molter scored all three goals for Marshfield, with Urban and Guzowski assisting on two of them. Carolfi had two saves to complete her second shutout of the tournament.
Guzowski was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Marshfield is now 8-4-2 and hosts Wisconsin Rapids at 5 p.m. Monday at Griese Park in its next game.
