MARSHFIELD – Wausau West scored three first-half goals, including one with 1 second left before halftime, and went on to a 4-1 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Thursday at Griese Park.

Anna Paulson scored the game’s first goal 4:51 into the game and Anna Brown hit for a hat trick, scoring twice in 5 minutes late in the first half and adding another with 4:50 to go in the game.

Marshfield’s only goal came from Julia Urban, off an assist from Walker Guzowski, with 8½ minutes left.

“It was a good tune-up game for the playoffs as West is a nice team,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “They have some great speed up front and put it to our defense.

“Emily Goeppinger had a great game for Marshfield and played one of her best games of the year. We just need to string 80 minutes of the entire team playing well to have more success.”

Marshfield hosts Ashland in a nonconference game at 5 p.m. Friday and finishes its regular-season schedule Monday at home against Wisconsin Rapids at 4 p.m. The Tigers will open WIAA Division 2 action on June 5. The pairings have not been announced.
