LA CROSSE – Spencer junior Rachel Zastrow won the Division 3 girls pole vault Saturday at the 2014 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Zastrow had a vault of 10 feet to take first in the event and earn a medal for the third-straight time at the state meet. She finished fifth in pole vault in 2012 and second last year.
Marshfield Columbus Catholic sophomore Alexandra Hutchison won the Division 3 girls 200 meters in 25.68 seconds to take her first state track title. She was the top seed after qualifying on Friday. Hutchison also took fourth in the Division 3 girls 100 in a time of 12.84 seconds.
Two other area athletes won medals on Saturday as well. The top six in each event in each other the three divisions earn state meet medals.
Marshfield senior Keiron Howlett took sixth in the Division 1 boys triple jump with a leap of 45-1. It was his second medal of the meet after placing third in the long jump on Friday.
Matt Oestreich, who finished fourth in the event last year at state, took 12th with a jump of 44-0.5 for Marshfield.
Auburndale’s Lee Jepsen also grabbed a medal, taking sixth in the Division 3 boys 100. He finished in a time of 11.62 seconds. Tom Sabel took eighth in the 200 finals, finishing in 23.45 seconds.
Columbus Catholic’s 400 girls relay team of Hutchison, Katie Weister, Rachel Roehl and Hannah Stratman just missed out on a medal, placing seventh in 52.15 seconds. The time was just 0.16 of second off a sixth-place finish.
Columbus Catholic’s boys 3,200 relay team of Samual Studinger, Ben Behling, Scott Steinert and Christian Payant took 13th in 8:31.19.
Stratford’s Nadia King took 16th in the Division 2 girls 1,600 in 5:37.97 and Eli Temanson finished 10th in both the D-2 100 (11.51) and the 200 (22.85).
Auburndale’s Sylviann Momont end up 10th in the Division 3 girls triple jump (33-7).
