LA CROSSE – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Blue Demons Junior American Legion baseball team went 2-1 at the La Crosse Jr. Legion Tournament to tie for first in its pool, but lost in the head-to-head tiebreaker and failed to advance to the tournament championship.
Marshfield lost to Union Grove 4-1 on Friday, and defeated La Crescent (Minn.) 12-5 and La Crosse Logan 11-2 on Saturday, improving to 8-8 overall this season.
Jake Brueggen threw a complete game, allowing only one earned run in the loss against Union Grove. Brenden Collins and Aaron Braun each had two hits for Marshfield.
Scott Berg struck out six in a complete-game effort to pick up the win against La Crescent. Jeremy Brost had a three-run triple, Matthis Gouin had an RBI double and Bobby Pilz had a single and a double for the Blue Demons.
Pilz earned the win against La Crosse, striking out five in five innings. Hunter Korger closed the game out with two scoreless innings of relief.
Braun and Collins each had two hits, and Connor Jasurda had a double for Marshfield.
The Blue Demons return to action Tuesday with a doubleheader against Eau Claire at Jack Hackman Field. The first game starts at 5:30 p.m.
