PLOVER – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 American Legion baseball team moved into the championship round of the Class AAA Wisconsin State Legion Tournament with a 9-4 win over Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Park.
Marshfield (24-11) staved off elimination with the victory and will play host Plover (30-6) in the championship round at 3 p.m. Sunday. Marshfield must beat Plover twice to win the state title. If the Blue Devils win the first game, the two teams will play again at approximately 7 p.m.
Plover defeated Marshfield 9-5 on Friday night.
By advancing to the championship round, Marshfield also automatically earns a spot in next week’s Great Lakes Regional at Terre Haute, Ind. The regional is Aug. 7-11 with a berth in the 2014 American Legion World Series on the line.
Marshfield trailed 4-0 after three innings before rallying with five runs in the sixth, another in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull away.
Mitch Susa earned the win for Marshfield.
