PLOVER – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 baseball team’s run at the 2014 Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Memorial Park came to an end with a runner-up finish Sunday.

However, the Blue Devils’ season is far from over.

Plover throttled Marshfield 13-1 in the championship round to advance to the Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Terre Haute, Ind., on Aug. 7-11.

Marshfield also qualified for the regional as the top two teams from the Wisconsin state tournament earn spots in the regional this year.

Plover (31-6), which went a perfect 5-0 in the state tournament, will play host Terre Haute at approximately 8 p.m. on the opening day of the eight-team tournament.

Marshfield (24-12) will take on the Illinois state tournament runner-up at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday.

Should Plover and Marshfield both win, or both lose its openers, the two teams would meet on Friday. The tournament concludes Aug. 11 with the championship at 1 p.m.

The winner of the Great Lakes Regional moves on to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C., on Aug. 14-19.
