TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 baseball team dropped its opener at the Great Lakes American Legion Baseball Regional on Thursday, losing to Galesburg, Ill., 14-7.
Marshfield led 6-3 after 6½ innings before Galesburg eruped for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and added four more in the eighth to pull off the victory.
Mitchell Susa suffered the loss, giving up four runs without recording an out in the seventh. Jeremy Binder gave up the next seven runs, five earned, in two complete innings of work.
Drew Spaeth started for the Blue Devils (24-13), allowing three runs and nine hits in six innings.
Nathan Dupee, Susa, Alex Brostowitz, Sam Klein and Trevor Schwecke each had two hits, and Joe Mundt drove in two runs for Marshfield.
Galesburg’s leadoff hitter, Drake Sykes, did much of the damage against the Blue Devils. Sykes had two singles, a double, a home run and six RBIs for Galesburg in the win.
Marshfield plays host Terre Haute, Ind., in an elimination game on Friday.
