Auburndale football wins opener at Tomahawk

TOMAHAWK – The Auburndale football team opened its 2014 season with a road victory, beating Tomahawk 22-14 in a Marawood Conference game Friday at Tomahawk High School.

Jake Lewis rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, and returned a punt 50 yards for another score to lead the Apaches.

Kurt Jankowski ran 2 yards for the first Auburndale TD and Lewis returned a punt for a score to put the Apaches up 14-6 at halftime.

Lewis added what proved to be the game-winner in the third quarter.

Auburndale was outgained 362-247 but were able to turn Tomahawk over three times.

The Apaches continue their season with another Marawood game next Friday, Aug. 29, at home against Edgar (1-0) at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
