Spencer/Columbus football routs Fall Creek in 2014 opener

FALL CREEK – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team began the 2014 season the same way it ended the 2013 campaign – with a victory over Fall Creek.

The Rockets blasted Fall Creek 35-14 in a Cloverbelt Conference matchup Friday night at Fall Creek High School.

Tyler Voda led the Spencer/Columbus rushing attack with 90 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the Rockets ran for 276 yards.

Hunter Hildebrandt added 67 yards on the ground and a touchdown, and Mitch Susa had 53 yards rushing, 26 yards receiving and a total of three scores for S/C.

Rockets’ quarterback Calvin Lenz threw for 105 yards and the TD to Susa, and ran for 26 yards as well.

Spencer/Columbus outgained the Crickets 381-118.

Spencer/Columbus hosts defending Division 5 state champion Stanley-Boyd in a conference game next Friday, Aug. 29, at Spencer High School at 7 p.m.
