Columbus Catholic soccer third at CWC Tournament

WAUPUN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team finished 1-0-2 and took third place at the Central Wisconsin Christian Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Dons defeated CWC 3-2 on Friday in their season-opener behind goals from Alexandra Hutchison, Tara Brock and Ryan Dieringer. Dieringer and Sean McCarthy had assists and Evan Hansen had seven saves in goal for Columbus.

On Saturday, Columbus lost a shootout to Waupun 1-0 after the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Hansen had five saves for the Dons.

In the third-place game, Columbus tied Lake Mills 1-1 before winning a shootout 2-1. Hansen only had to make three saves in the win. Matt Olson assisted on a McCarthy goal during regulation.

Columbus opens Mid-State Soccer Conference play Monday at Casper Park in Chippewa Falls against McDonell/Regis.
