SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign with a big, rolling to a perfect 4-0 record at its home Spencer Invitational on Tuesday at Spencer High School.
The Rockets swept Chippewa Falls McDonell (25-16, 25-20), Stanley-Boyd (25-23, 25-22), Pittsville (25-10, 25-14) and Prentice (25-19, 25-19) by 2-0 scores to win the tournament.
“It was a good start to the season,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We now have lots of things to work on as a team.”
Macie Weber had 23 kills and five blocks, Marisa Johnson added 22 kills and 30 digs, and setter Brooke Kettleborough had 66 assists for Spencer.
Abby Varsho added 14 kills and seven blocks, Kallie Reckner had 25 assists, Courtney Buss had 29 digs, and Jenna Schober and Julia Berres each had nine service aces for the Rockets.
Spencer will play at the Early-Bird Invitational on Saturday at Marathon High School.
