PITTSVILLE – Marathon swept the team titles Thursday at the season-opening Pittsville Cross Country Invitational at Pittsville High School.
For the girls, Stratford finished second, Spencer was fourth, Marshfield Columbus Catholic took fifth and Auburndale was sixth.
The Columbus Catholic boys finished second, with Stratford fourth, Spencer sixth and Auburndale seventh.
Stratford sophomore Johnelle Miner had the top local finish for the girls, taking second in 21:20, 37 seconds behind champion Anna Buchberger of Marathon.
Kaylee Hollatz finished fifth (22:10) and Nadia King was ninth (23:09), helping Stratford to the second-place finish.
Kali Karl was eighth (23:03) and Abby Bauer finished 10th (23:11) to top the Auburndale girls.
Columbus Catholic’s Marissa Immerfall was 13th (23:53) and Spencer’s Paige Lawrence was 15th (24:04).
Xavier Lechleitner of Marathon won the boys race in 17:12, 19 seconds better than Columbus Catholic’s Benjamin Behling.
Stratford’s Cade Lehman was fourth in 17:39, with teammate John Geissinger seventh in 18:39.
Spencer’s top runner was Donovan Fox, who took 10th in 19:15.
Columbus Catholic hosts its annual invitational on Saturday at Wildwood Park in Marshfield. The events begin at 9 a.m.
