Columbus Catholic volleyball opens season 2-1 at Loyal Quad

LOYAL – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team started its 2014 season with a strong performance at the Loyal/Granton Quadrangular on Thursday at Loyal High School.

The Dons finished 2-1 to take second at the meet.

Columbus beat Rib Lake 13-25, 25-19, 15-10, lost to Loyal/Granton 25-23, 25-21, and then beat Osseo-Fairchild 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.

The Dons strength was its defense, as three players had at least 28 digs during the three matches. Sierra Litwatis had 35 digs, Natalie Pospyhalla had 30 and Abby Baierl added 28.

Poshyhalla had a team-high 14 kills and Kendra Baierl had 12 for Columbus.

The Dons will compete at the Diocesan Meet at Chippewa Falls McDonell on Saturday.
