Columbus Catholic soccer drops first conference game to Pacelli

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team dropped its first conference game of the season, losing to Stevens Point Pacelli 2-1 on Friday at the Portage County Soccer Complex.

Luke Yenter scored a pair of goals for the Cardinals before Sean McCarthy netted a score on a free kick in the second half, but the Dons couldn’t get any closer.

Evan Hansen had seven saves in goal for Columbus Catholic, which held an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Columbus and Pacelli are now tied for first place in the Mid-State Soccer Conference with 4-1 records. Columbus is 6-2-2 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 6-1-1.

Columbus Catholic hosts Northland Lutheran in a Mid-State game Monday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
