ABBOTSFORD – The Spencer volleyball team continued its hot streak as it swept seven matches to win the Bud Nelson Invitational on Saturday at Abbotsford High School.
The Rockets lost only one game in the seven matches, improving to 25-1 this season.
Macie Weber had 54 kills and 15 blocks, Marisa Johnson added 50 kills and 102 digs, Courtney Buss had 106 digs and Brooke Kettleborough had a team-high 73 assists for Spencer.
Spencer defeated Loyal/Granton 25-18, 25-13; Waupaca 25-19, 23-25, 15-12; Colby 26-24, 25-22; Pittsville 25-11, 25-12; Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 25-8, 25-13; Stratford 25-14, 25-18; and Abbotsford 25-22, 25-18.
“Always a great feeling to finish first,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We played up and down all day, but we were strong enough to finish. Hopefully it helps us prepare for our conference push.”
Spencer, which is 4-0 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, hosts Colby on Tuesday and plays at Neillsville on Thursday in a pair of conference matches. Spencer, Neillsville and Greenwood are tied atop of the Cloverbelt East standings.
Stratford finished second in the tournament at 6-1, with Abbotsford third at 5-2.
