Columbus Catholic High School senior Sean McCarthy has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com September High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
McCarthy grabbed more than 3,000 votes during voting that took place Oct. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
McCarthy had 14 goals and six assists in 10 games during September as Columbus Catholic went 6-3-1. McCarthy had three goals in wins against Wisconsin Valley Lutheran, Mauston and Northland Lutheran, and also netted two goals in another victory over WVL.
Other nominees for the award were Colby/Abbotsford cross country runner Sam Bach, Marshfield football player Tanner Boson, Marshfield girls golfer Molly Field, Athens volleyball player Briana Lavicka, and Spencer/Columbus football player Mitch Susa.
