MARSHFIELD – Rhiannon Baierl threw a six-inning no-hitter and Marshfield pounded out 13 hits in an 11-0 whitewashing of D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Tuesday at the Central Wisconsin Fairgounds.
Baierl struck out five and walked five, and was helped in the field by a running catch from leftfielder Becky Boehning to end the third inning and a nice play by Taylor Varsho deep in the hole at shortstop in the fifth.
“(Rhiannon) did struggle early in the game with some walks, but when she got settled down she started throwing better and did a good job,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “She put the ball in spots where it made it difficult to hit it and the defense made the plays and we didn’t give them anything for free.”
Raelyn Wingert went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Andie Varsho was 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Boehning finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Tigers, who have won four straight games to improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the WVC.
“Offensively, having 13 hits and having five doubles in the game, that helps a lot,” Voss said. “We had a number of two-out hits to keep some innings alive and push some runs across.”
Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
