AUBURNDALE – Pittsville put up back-to-back seven-run innings to bust open a tight game and beat Auburndale 24-13 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Friday at Auburndale High School.
Tied 10-10 after four innings, Pittsville scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to outlast the Apaches and send them to their third straight loss.
Kelli Isaacson was 3-for-4 for two runs scored, and Kayla Gotz was 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Auburndale offense, which produced 16 hits.
“I’m very happy with my young players who are working hard,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “Kayla Gotz is a freshmen who is really coming around with her offense. We just need to match our offense with smart defense.”
Auburndale jumped on Pittsville pitcher Samatha Wilke, collecting eight hits and seven runs in the first inning, but the Panthers chipped away with four runs in the fourth and six more in the fourth to take a 10-7 lead.
Heather Nigh, Kayleigh Kundinger, Becky Willfahrt and Stacy Brokish also had two hits each for the Apaches.
Samantha Wilke had two hits and three runs scored and Cortnee Robus had two hits and two runs for Pittsville.
Auburndale is at Stratford on Monday.
