WESTON – Ellen Stichert and Michelle Theisen each won an event and finished second in another to help the Marshfield girls track and field team to a third-place finish at the D.C. Everest Girls Track Invitational on Friday at D.C. Everest Middle School.
Bay Port edged the host Evergreens for the team title, 133.5-132, and Marshfield was third with 122.5 points.
Stichert won the 300-meter hurdles in 48.82 seconds and took second in the 100 hurdles in 17.43; and Theisen won the discus with a toss of 105-7 and was second in the shot put with a throw of 36-11 – the best shot put by a Tiger girls in 19 years.
Marshfield had two other first-place finishes. The 800-meter relay team of Alexa Fritsch, Nikki Youngblood, Miranda Snortheim and Gabriella Myrie won in 1:51.51, and Bisola Omoba won the 100 in 12.71 seconds.
Kelsey Weigel had a pair of second-place finishes for Marshfield – in the long jump (15-9 ¾) and the discus (103-5).
Fritsch, Myrie, Snortheim and Omobo were third in the 400 relay (52.25) and Kate Schumitsch set a new school record in the pole vault, finishing third with a vault of 9 feet for the Tigers.
“We hadn’t attended this meet in quite some time so we were glad to be back here,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We were so pleased with the efforts the girls gave us tonight. We asked them to do a lot more than usual and they responded brilliantly.”
The Tigers are back in action Tuesday at the Wood County Meet at Pittsville.
