Marshfield girls hockey falls to first-place Waupaca

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls hockey team managed only 10 shots on goal and dropped a Great Northern Conference matchup to Waupaca 4-1 on Friday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.

Waupaca scored once in the first period and twice in the second to build a 3-0 lead.

The Comets added another goal before Marshfield finally got on the scoreboard in the final minute when Kessa Schreiner scored on an assist from Hailey Draxler with 57 seconds to go.

Waupaca (12-1, 4-0 Great Northern Conference) held a 43-10 advantage in shots on goal. Mandy Tomlinson had two goals and an assist for the Comets.

Alexis Straughan had 39 saves for Marshfield (3-6, 2-3 GNC).

Marshfield’s next game is Jan. 9 at home against Medford.
