Spencer boys basketball blows past Gilman

SPENCER – Spencer’s Bobby Pilz and Nate Mercier continued their hot long-range shooting, propelling the Rockets to a 67-33 rout of Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

Pilz and Mercier, who combined to make 12 3-pointers in a one-point loss to Auburndale on Saturday, were 8 of 15 from 3-point range Tuesday night. Pilz had 19 points and Mercier finished with 16 for the Rockets.

Mitch Susa added 10 points for Spencer, which improves to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Gilman is now 2-7 and 1-7 in the conference.

Spencer pushed out to a 31-14 lead by halftime and cruised from there.

Spencer’s next game is at home Friday against Colby.
