Marshfield senior guard Ellie Kummer has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio and MarshfieldAreaSports.com December High School Athlete of the Month.
Kummer, who is averaging 16 points per game this season for the Marshfield girls basketball team, tallied just over 47 percent of the nearly 5,900 votes cast in voting from Jan. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Kummer’s December highlight came in a nonconference win at Bay Port on Dec. 23. Kummer scored a career-high 28 points, making 5 of 7 shots from 3-point range and 9 of 10 free throws in the victory. She also had double-figures in wins over Wausau West, Wisconsin Rapids and Superior, and in a loss to De Pere.
Kummer will be presented with an award from Burt Trophy & Awards. The monthly award is also sponsored by Marshfield Clinic and Cost Cutters of Marshfield.
Other nominees for the December award were Neillsville girls basketball player Chelsea Opelt, Spencer boys basketball player Bobby Pilz and Stratford boys basketball player Jake Reif.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
