MARSHFIELD – Andie Varsho continued her torrid early-season hitting, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs to lift the Marshfield softball team to a 14-0 whipping of Rhinelander on Tuesday at the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds.
Rhiannon Baierl, who tossed a no-hitter last week against D.C. Everest, tossed four innings of one-hit ball and Scout Meyer threw a scoreless fifth as the Tigers won via the 10-run rule.
Marshfield scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and added three runs in both the second and third innings to build a huge lead.
“We got out to a quick start offensively, from there we played solid defensively and did a good job of keeping them off the base paths and not committing any errors,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Overall, it was a very good game.”
Raelynn Wingert was 3-for-4 and Taylor Varsho went 2-for-3 for the Tigers, who improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Valley. Hayley Umhoefer added a double and two RBIs for Marshfield.
Rhinelander falls to 2-3 and 0-2 in the WVC.
Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Thursday and is home for a doubleheader Saturday against Hudson.
