PHILLIPS – Stratford completed back-to-back conference titles with a dominating effort Saturday at the 2015 Marawood Conference Wrestling Tournament at Phillips High School.
The Tigers had 13 of their 14 wrestlers finish in the top three in their respective weight classes, including six individual champions.
Stratford, which went undefeated in the Marawood dual meet season, totaled 261 points to win the team title for the second year in a row. Edgar was second with 178½ points, Athens finished third with 176 and Auburndale was fourth with 131½.
All six of Stratford’s individual champions are underclassmen. Freshmen A.J. Schoenfuss (106 pounds) and Jeremy Schoenherr (113), sophomores Mason Kauffman (132), Kam Bornbach (182) and Tyson Kauffman (285), and junior Anthony Gliniecki (126) won titles for the Tigers.
Mason Kauffman remains undefeated, improving to 37-0 this season. Schoenherr is now 32-1, Gliniecki is 25-1, Schoenfuss is 35-2, Bornbach improves to 31-3, and Tyson Kauffman is 24-9.
David Marquardt (138), Kyle Martin (160), Bryce Murray (195) and Hunter Kauffman (220) each lost in the championship match to finish second for the Tigers.
Hunter Kauffman (31-1) suffered his first loss of the season, losing in an ultimate tiebreaker 3-2 to Wesley Dittman (29-1) of Edgar after the match was unsettled following two extra periods.
Auburndale had one individual champion. Kurt Jankowski (32-7) edged Murray of Stratford 1-0 in the 195-pound title match.
Dylan Altmann (126), Paul Willfahrt (145) and Wyatt Weiler (170) each finished second for the Apaches.
