Merrill skates past Marshfield boys hockey

MERRILL – Merrill scored the final two goals to ease past Marshfield 3-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

Bryce Gadke scored for Marshfield 4:16 into the second period to tie the game 1-1, but that was all the Tigers could muster.

Bryce Swiechowski scored 2:30 later and Michael Baumann added a goal 10:26 into the third period to give the Bluejays (5-12, 2-8 Wisconsin Valley Conference) the win.

Chris Sanford had five saves and Haydon Roy-Peterson had eight in goal for Marshfield (7-14, 1-9 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield outshot Merrill 39-16, but Bluejays goalie Bryce Broeking made 38 saves to earn the win.

Marshfield closes out its regular season next week with a game at D.C. Everest on Tuesday and a home game Feb. 12 against Wausau East.
