Athens senior Kyncaide Diedrich has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com January High School Athlete of the Month.
Diedrich, a 5-foot-5 guard, received 2,823 of the nearly 7,800 votes cast during voting from Feb. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Diedrich scored more than 20 points four times during January, helping Athens to a 7-1 record. Diedrich had 31 points in a win over Edgar on Jan. 9 and totaled 30 points in a loss to Abbotsford on Jan. 29. Diedrich is averaging 22 points per game in 10 Marawood Conference North Division contests and she leads the North in assists (4.7) and steals (6.4) per game this season. Athens is now 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the Marawood North.
Diedrich will receive a plaque from Burt Trophy & Awards. The monthly award is also sponsored by Marshfield Clinic and Cost Cutters Family Hair Care of Marshfield.
Diedrich also won the award in February 2014.
Other nominees for the January award were Stratford wrestler Hunter Kauffman, Auburndale boys basketball player Matt Nikolay and Marshfield gymnast Olivia Tierney.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Diedrich joins past award winners from the 2014-15 school year: Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer player Sean McCarthy (September), Columbus Catholic cross country runner Ben Behling (October), Edgar football player Zachary Pospyhalla (November), and Marshfield girls basketball player Ellie Kummer (December).
