Pittsville edges Stratford boys basketball

PITTSVILLE – Stratford’s comeback attempt came up a basket short and the Tigers dropped a 53-51 decision to Pittsville in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Pittsville High School.

Pittsville led 41-32 entering the fourth quarter before Stratford used a 19-12 advantage to get back in the game, but came up two points short.

Derrick Schmidt had 14 points and Jake Reif scored 13 for the Tigers, who fall to 11-7 overall and 4-6 in the Marawood South.

Pittsville improves to 7-11 and 4-7 in the conference. Matthew Carlson led the Panthers with 19 points.

Stratford hosts first-place Marathon on Friday. Marathon can clinch the outright Marawood South title with a victory. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
