Marshfield boys hockey ties Wausau East in WVC finale

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a 3-3 tie against Wausau East on Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

Marshfield led 3-1 late in the second period after two goals by Zach Leggon and another by Ray McConnel.

The Lumberjacks rallied as Landon Dehnel netted his second goal of the game with 2:09 left in the second period and Gabe McGinnity tied it with 3:26 to go in regulation.

Neither team scored in the eight-minute overtime period and the game ended in a tie.

Haydon Roy-Peterson had 39 saves in goal for Marshfield, which finishes the regular season with a 7-15-1 record overall and a 1-10-1 mark in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Marshfield opens postseason play with a WIAA regional semifinal Tuesday at home against Altoona at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to a regional final at Eau Claire Memorial on Feb. 19.
