EAU CLAIRE – Eau Claire Memorial scored the final six goals and pulled away to beat Marshfield 8-2 in a WIAA boys hockey regional final Thursday night at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The Old Abes dominated play, outshooting Marshfield 68-13.

Marshfield goalkeeper Haydon Roy-Peterson held up early, but eventually the onslaught by Memorial proved too much as it scored twice in the second period and four unanswered goals in the third. Roy-Peterson finished with 60 saves.

Memorial (17-4-2) moves on to a sectional semifinal at home against Ashland/Washburn on Feb. 24. Marshfield ends its season with a 7-16-1 record.

The Tigers answered Memorial early, matching them on their first two goals.

Ben Bremer scored on an assist from Scott Berg and Jacob Draves to tie the game at 1-1. After Memorial scored again late in the first period, Draves tied it again early in the second period for the Tigers.

That was all the Tigers could muster the rest of the way and Memorial was able to pull away.

Jacob Hudecek and Bret Schwengler scored during the second period, and the Old Abes scored four goals in a six-minute stretch in the third to away the win.

Trevor Hudecek had 11 saves in goal for the Old Abes.
