Edgar edges Spencer in WIAA Division 4 girls basketball regional quarterfinal

EDGAR – The Spencer girls basketball team hung with Edgar the entire game but came up two baskets short, losing a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal 42-38 on Tuesday at Edgar High School.

Edgar (14-9) advances to a Division 4 regional semifinal at Marathon (21-1) on Friday. Spencer ends its season with a 6-17 record.

Edgar led 12-6 after one quarter but were able to stay close, closing the gap to three by halftime and two entering the fourth quarter. The Wildcats held on, outscoring Spencer 16-14 in the final period.

Spencer was hurt at the free throw line, making just nine of 20 shots. Edgar was 9 of 14 from the line.

Nadia King had 10 points to lead Spencer. Tianna Borchardt topped Edgar with 15 points.
