GREENWOOD – The Spencer softball team won its fourth straight game, and did so in exciting fashion on Thursday.
The Rockets nearly blew a 10-2 lead when Greenwood rallied to score four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. However, catcher Krystal Weier saved the day for Spencer, hustling to tag out Rachel Herdrich, who was trying to score from third on a wild pitch, for the final out of the game to preserve a 10-9 Cloverbelt Conference East Division victory.
The Rockets improve to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Cloverbelt, while Greenwood falls to 7-6 and 2-4 in conference play.
Nicki Bruss earned the win, allowing eight hits and eight walks in six-plus innings. Dominique Stange replaced Bruss in the seventh and got the final three outs to preserve the victory.
Dominique Stange was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Bruss and Monica Stange also added two hits each for the Rockets. Weier walked and was hit by a pitch and scored twice for Spencer.
