WAUSAU – Pat Hayes had an 87 to lead the Marshfield boys golf team to a fifth-place finish Friday in the first of seven legs of the Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament at Greenwood Hills Country Club.
Michael Josephson added an 88, Mike Field had an 89 and Ade Dillon shot a 96 as the Tigers totaled 360. Wausau West won the meet with a 332 and Wisconsin Rapids was second with a 335.
The golfers endured a 90-minute rain and lightning delay and finished as darkness set in, Marshfield coach Paul Foegen said.
Ryan Hoffmeister of third-place Stevens Point was the meet medalist after shooting a 78.
Leg No. 2 of the tournament is Tuesday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
