Spencer softball wins two of three games at Monroe Tournament

MONROE – The Spencer softball team used a come-from-behind victory to finish 2-1 on Saturday at the Monroe Softball Tournament.

The Rockets defeated Monroe 6-5 and Highland Park (Ill.) 12-8, and lost 10-2 to Pearl City (Ill.), to even their season record at 2-2.

Spencer trailed 5-1 after 4½ innings against Monroe before starting a rally.

Cinnamin Harwood and Kallie Reckner each had RBI singles in a three-run sixth innings, and Lindsey Vaughan capped a two-run seventh with a two-out RBI single to give the Rockets the victory.

Macie Weber had nine strikeouts and earned the victory on the mound, and added two hits and two RBIs for Spencer. Brooke Kettleborough had a pair of triples as well for Spencer.

Weber had a home run, two singles and three RBIs, Kettleborough had two hits and three RBIs, and Johnson had two hits and two RBIs in the victory of Highland Park. Ellayna Lyon earned the win, striking out three in four innings.

Johnson hit a home run for Spencer in the loss to Pearl City.

Spencer opens its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule Tuesday at home against Gilman.
