WISCONSIN DELLS – The Marshfield baseball team went 2-1 during a two-day stretch at the Woodside Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers played Wausau West in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Friday night, losing 6-3. Marshfield rebounded with a pair of nonconference wins Saturday, beating Eau Claire Memorial 11-8 and Eau Claire North 6-2.

Marshfield led West 3-0 early and clung to a 3-2 lead until West rallied with four runs over the final two innings to pull out the victory.

Jack Donahue suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs in six innings. Trevor Schwecke was 2-for-4 for lead the Marshfield offense.

Mason Tysver picked up the victory in the win over Memorial, striking out two and allowing three runs (two earned) in five innings.

Donahue was 3-for-4 with a double, and Cameron Swanson and Sam Klein each had two hits for the Tigers. Matt Meyer had a single, walked twice, and scored three times for Marshfield.

Sophomore left-hander Jacob Brueggen earned the victory for Marshfield against North, giving up just two runs (one earned) in six innings.

The Tigers (2-2 overall) took advantage of seven walks in the win.

“Up until Saturday we struggled with only six hits in our first two games,” Marshfield coach Mark Zee said. “Hitting is contagious and on Saturday we really got it going.

“The strength of our team has been pitching and defense and we really played good defense on Saturday. We had a number of great defensive plays and double plays in the wins.”

Marshfield plays at Wausau West on Thursday.
