STRATFORD – The Stratford softball team split a pair of games at its home tournament Saturday.
The Tigers defeated Athens 9-2 and lost to Iola-Scandinavia 9-5.
Kiana Weiler earned the win against Athens, striking out five and scattering 10 hits in a complete-game effort.
Stratford (7-2) led 3-2 after three innings and as Weiler blanked Athens the rest of the way, the Tigers scored six runs over the final three innings to ice it.
Brittany Bredemann and Kaylee Geiger each had a single, a double and three RBIs, and Alexis Hofmann added a pair of hits for the Tigers.
Berenice Lara hit a home run and had both RBIs for Athens (5-2).
Iola-Scandinavia scored four times in the bottom of the first inning before Stratford stormed back with a five-run third.
However, the Tigers didn’t score again and Iola-Scandinavia plated two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to pull away.
Casey Kolbeck had a two-run home run for Stratford.
The Tigers’ next game is next Friday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
